One-Handed Billy will tell you the tale
Of the data we sought that was deadlier than a whale
We set off to sea and we brought dynamite
To shoot seismic lines all into the night
We ran lines all day as the echoes they came
All through the hull you could hear the refrain
We blasted the sea into kingdom come
For data we sailed every day in the sun
Chorus:
Hey ho let the dynamite go
We won't go home 'till the last one's thrown
Be sure to release, then tighten your cheeks
The seismic recorder will chart all the peaks
With hydrophones streaming kilometers behind
And Cores from below showing spreading in kind
We pummeled Earth’s crust up the mid-ocean rise
Tectonic drift proof was Marie Tharp’s surprise
After six weeks off shore, every day the same din
We drowned out the sound with beer and with gin
‘Till stores were near empty but still we sailed on
The dynamite singing low frequency songs
CHORUS
Regulations were scarce and daylight grew thin
Dynamite Billy quaffed his ration of gin
At interval spacing he lobbed o’r the side
One stick at a time on this foreboding line
On the twenty-third shot of the ninth survey line
Billy’s interval spacing drifted in time
Before his shipmates knew anything was wrong
Billy held on that sparkler a moment too long
CHORUS
See you young survey techs, now you know why
We compress all our air and our ships are all dry
And ye who run airguns, please listen to me
Things would be worse without OSHA safety...

ooooh
there once was a ship that put to sea
and the name on the ship was the evergreen
her screws spun up, her bow spun round
oh turn my evergreen turn
CHORUS:
soon may excavation men come
to dig us out of this Suez run
one day when the diggin' is done
we'll take our leave and gooooooo!
Had not been many miles in shore
When the ship went dark and dark once more
The captain called all stop and swore
What's happened down below?
CHORUS
fore the crew did come to stop her
the canal bank rose up and caught her
this was not the way to dock her
stuck there to the shore
CHORUS
the sand is deep, no ship is freed
of unfettered trade do we have need
but here we remain quite trapped indeed
perhaps we'll need a tow
CHORUS
